First โ€” tell us where you are
This view filters the catalog to targets actually visible from your sky tonight (above 20ยฐ altitude during evening dark hours). We need your location to do the math โ€” just enter your city once and it's saved forever.
No targets match your search. Try a shorter term, a catalog number (M31, NGC 7000), or check spelling.

Ranked best-first by tonight's observing score

Each target gets a score (0โ€“100) based on three things about tonight's sky from your location:

55%How high it gets. Higher peaks mean less atmospheric extinction, less light-pollution glare, and better seeing. 90ยฐ overhead = max; 20ยฐ low on horizon = zero. 30%How long it stays above 30ยฐ. A target that's high for 4 hours beats one that only peaks for 15 minutes โ€” gives you a real observing window. 5+ hours = max. 15%How early it peaks. 9 PM peak = max, 5 AM peak = zero. Favours targets accessible to amateurs with day jobs, but the weight is light so a brilliant late-night target still ranks well.

Top 3 get medals (๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿฅ‰). #4โ€“10 get blue pills. Below that, ranks are still shown but understated โ€” the order is still meaningful, just less critical to point out.
